Every painting tells a quiet story of discovery - a reflection of years spent observing the gentle shifts of tide and sunlight along Maine's shores. My name is Janet Ellis, and for over 18 years I have dedicated myself to the craft of oil painting, drawing deep inspiration from the landscapes and natural light of Alfred and Maine's coastline. What began as a simple curiosity blossomed into a lasting passion shaped by the patient guidance of mentors such as Tiago Finato, Jane Seoane of Marshfield, and Kathy Kitell at Don's Art Classes in Warren, Rhode Island.
With each brushstroke, I seek to distill the peaceful moments nature offers us: the early morning mist on the cove, the golden horizon at sunrise, the warm presence of a beloved animal by your side. My connection to this region runs deep, guiding my hand as I strive to capture scenes that evoke authenticity, serenity, and the sense of place found only here. An enduring love for Maine's gentle landscapes and natural light has shaped my life and art. My journey began with a sense of wonder for the coastal views near Alfred and soon became a pursuit marked by curiosity, hard work, and gratitude. After years of study with dedicated mentors, including Tiago Finato, Jane Seoane, Bill McLane, Kathy Kitell, and Todd Bonita, I found my creative home in oil painting. Every canvas is an opportunity to honor the tranquility of nature and those fleeting, quiet moments that often go unnoticed. I approach each piece - be it a sunlit harbor scene, a vibrant still life, or a custom pet portrait - with the care and attention it deserves.
